I don't remember anything about my 3 & 4 year old days, but I would think that jumping off a diving board for the first time would feel pretty scary at that age (at least w/ my personality). Well, apparently that was the case for Brodie....at first. Unbeknownst to me, the swim instructors of his swim class took the kids to the diving board at the beginning of one of their classes. One teacher got in the pool to catch them and then one by one they were asked/encouraged to jump off. When it was finally Brodie's turn, he started up the steps and then froze mid-way to the end of the board. Yikes! After trying to encourage/persuade him that he should go, his instructor walked him back to the steps. Oh well...not too big of a deal, but Kyle and I knew he would spend the rest of the evening telling us that he wanted to try again. And that's exactly what happened.
So, here we are 2 days later at the same pool, but this time not for swim lessons. We went to enjoy the day at the pool with friends. After 15 minutes or so, Brodie asked if he could jump off the board. Okay, we'll give it a shot...only this time we weren't allowed to catch him in the water. He didn't seem to mind. In fact, much to our surprise, he didn't even waver. He walked straight to the end of the board and jumped. He swam to the side and gave us a huge, proud smile! Awesome! He then proceeded to jump about 5 more times. But the story doesn't end here.
That same day, about 1 hour later, Brodie asked if he could jump off the board again. Sure thing! So, we head that direction and oddly enough Brodie froze on the board. His face filled with fright and he wouldn't jump....said it was too deep and that the board was too shaky! CRAZY! After 10 minutes of trying to understand him (aka trying to talk him into going), we gave up. BUT then he wouldn't come off the board either. WHAT??? So, let me get this straight. He doesn't want to jump, but he doesn't want to come down either. Talk about a battle going on in his sweet, little head. He finally succumbed and got down, BUT once again...he spent the day talking about how he really wants to try again! And around we go :)

I didn't realize that was his first time to jump off by himself! So glad we were able to witness the big event!!
