As you can see in the picture to the right, Brodie is already on top of folding his own laundry. I wonder when he will start asking for his first allowance...yikes! Brodie is also mesmerized by the dishwasher. Anytime we start to load or unload the dishwasher, Brodie is right there in the thick of things. Brodie loves his Mommy... I must admit Jill carries most of the weight around the house when it comes to cleaning, doing laundry or washing dishes. She hates it when I call her Monica from time to time (like from Friends). No doubt about it, Brodie loves being with his Momma therefore he is already partaking in the household chores. His least favorite time of the day is when Mommy starts getting ready each morning. She has to keep the door shut or it would take her twice the time to get ready due to the constant interruptions of her little helper. Brodie is all boy and loves anything that is mechanical (dryer, dishwasher, computer, etc). Who knows... he might grow up one day and have the good fortune of attending Engineering school at the finest university in the land. Gig em, Aggies! Many already know this, but we are a house divided. Jill is a Longhorn and I am an Aggie (and chances are good that she will not appreciate my previous sentence!). I am taking some risks as the Scott Family journalist with that one and the Monica reference.Well how did that happen (ie. becoming a house divided)? Jill and I first crossed paths at T Bar M in New Braunfels. I was visiting the camp for an Easter Retreat prior to committing my summer as a coach. Jill was doing a one year internship/ discipleship program at T Bar M called the Timothy Team. The Summer of 2000 Jill was on the leadership staff and I was a first time coach at T Bar M Sports Camp. We secretly kept close tabs on each other throughout the summer, but never showed any real interest. We definitely guarded our hearts and emotions that summer. After 10 weeks of 7-12 year old campers there is one week of Family Camp at T Bar M. It is the only time during which girl and guy coaches partner together for all activities. At Family Camp they match girl/guy coaches with each family based on family size and gender of the kids. Well who do you think I served with during that session? That's right Ms. Jill Hoffman. We were the counselors for a family from Austin named the Horvath's.
Eventually camp came to a close. Jill had completed her year-long commitment on the Timothy Team and it seemed our time together would be short lived. Then, I decided to make the year long commitment on the next year's Timothy Team. We reported to a pair of programming directors at the camp and were discipled by the Operations Director, Keith Myer. After the summer of 2000, a vacancy opened up for one of the program directors. Well, guess who filled that slot...that's right, Ms Jill Hoffman. So now I was reporting to her as a subordinate of sorts. Not the ideal situation for a relationship so we continued to guard our hearts...for an entire year of saying NOTHING. Finally, in July 2001, I asked Jill to enter a dating relationship. Yep...I'm a quick mover since that makes a year and 3 months just to ask her out. The rest is history as they say...we survived a long distance relationship, married in January 2003 and now after 4 years we have our own future camper (see below)!
